About

Weather that doesn't suck. One sentence first, then the numbers.

What this is

Most weather pages hand you a grid of numbers and wish you luck. This one starts with the answer: what to wear, when the rain shows up, when it leaves. The numbers sit underneath for anyone who wants to check our work.

Pick a lens at the top (everyday, run and ride, the commute, hunt and fish, home and yard, build and finish) and the same weather gets read for what you are doing today.

Who makes it

It is built and run by The Lumber Outlet Group, which also sells socks, and has opinions about wet feet. Weather That Doesn't Suck is a fully owned subsidiary of its Climate Science Division.

What it costs

The forecast is free for everyday use. There are no ads and no accounts, and we do not track you. The privacy page says exactly what that means.

The shop suggestions

Some days the page suggests one thing from the Lumber Outlet Group shop. Wool socks when it is wet, a lighter pair when it is warm. It only suggests something you can buy today, it names who made it, and it shows the real price. If you would rather not see them, untick the box in the footer and they stop. In severe weather they stop on their own.

Weather wear

We drew some shirts with weather puns on them. Nothing is made yet. If you would wear one, say so and leave an email. We will write once, when a maker is named and a shirt is real. There is no card, no deposit and no rush.

Where the weather comes from

The National Weather Service and Open-Meteo, with air quality from AirNow. The methodology page lists what each one is used for, how the sentence gets made, and where the page can be wrong.

Official warnings come first

This page is not a warning system. When the National Weather Service issues a warning, we show it plainly at the top, turn the jokes off, and say who issued it. For anything urgent, follow weather.gov and your local officials.
